Today was amazing! Such an incredible experience. I felt really safe and comfortable with Jan and he made it really fun! Everyone else was also very friendly! Unfortunately due to weather the flight had to be cancelled a few times, however the communication was great and I am so glad they were able to fit me in before I left Switzerland! My mom and I booked a paragliding experience for the Lauterbrunnen Valley on Viator well before our trip, so we didn’t know the weather. Two days before our flight, Paulo sent me a Whatsapp message saying that the weather was looking better the day before our scheduled day, and asked if we wanted to move. After some back-and-forth discussion with Paulo about my mom’s ability to run during takeoff because her knee has been bothering her, he made us feel good about keeping our appointment but moving it to one day earlier. There was a chance of good winds which helps with takeoff, and the pilot could help her since she couldn’t run. We arrived at the meeting point at the Mürren Gondola Station but couldn’t find a sign. I sent Paulo another message to ask where to meet him, and he called me, but was standing right beside me! We had to buy a ticket to go up to Birg for takeoff (use half fare card if you have it), as this was not included in the price. We took the gondola up and had a 10 minute rocky hike to the takeoff point. We gave our water bottles and backpacks to our pilots so they’d come down the mountain with us. When the wind was right, we were instructed to walk and then run to take off! The pilots helped instruct us how to sit in the harness and we floated while facing the big 3 mountains! The pilots use a GoPro to take photos and video during flight, and you can purchase for 41 swiss francs. They will connect something directly to your phone at the end if you want to buy. My pilot allowed me to steer on my own (with instructions!), and both our pilots told us a bit abut what we were seeing. It was such a nice, calm experience. Nothing scary about it at all! At landing, instructions were given and you land slowly either by sitting on the grass or standing on it. Our flights lasted about 25 minutes and you land near a Gondola and Bus station so you can get to where you need to go when you’re finished. Something to note: another company took off near the Mürren Gondola Station rather than going on up the mountain to Birg. Those people were not getting the views of the big 3 mountains at the beginning of their flight, rather, they were heading directly into the valley on a 10-15 minute flight. It was well worth the extra money to book this company rather than the other one for the extra we experienced!
